Job Purpose:

To manage and underwrite all aspects of the Casualty Direct Binders account, ensuring effective risk control and compliance with business plans.

Detailed Duties:

  • Underwrite authorised classes of business in accordance with the business plan and risk control framework.
  • Ensure that all underwriting obtains the required return on capital and adheres to individual risk limits and aggregate limits.
  • Attend the box within Lloyd's during underwriting hours and liaise closely with the internal Claims Department and/or external claims adjusters as required.
  • Assess loss ratio analysis for individual accounts and ensure underwriting files are of sufficient standard for effective Peer Review.
  • Ensure compliance with broker security requirements, Lloyds licensing requirements, and assist with completion of sanctions checks.
  • Manage account administration, including responding to queries raised by Administrators, and work closely with Assistants to ensure overall responsibility for administration.
  • Ensure that the purchasing of facultative reinsurance is done in accordance with the RI purchase procedures and work closely with the Reinsurance Department to ensure overall compliance.
  • Check that there is available aggregate prior to quoting and ensure that all aggregate information is recorded at the required level of detail.
  • Attend monthly underwriter meetings and Claims meetings, and manage credit control issues for the class(es) including close liaison with Assistant Underwriters, Capita, and brokers.
  • Manage, motivate, and discipline subordinate members of staff, participate in relevant internal committees, and ensure all senior staff are kept apprised of market issues and conditions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key brokers within the insurance market and clients, and have a working knowledge of systems including Crystal/Lloyds QA Tool, S2000, Swordfish, and GAAP.
