Assistant Professor of Exercise Science

Job Summary
Norfolk State University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Science to join our Department of Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science. The successful candidate will teach classes in the undergraduate Kinesiotherapy, Health Fitness Instructor, and Health Wellness Rehabilitation concentrations of the Exercise Science degree.
Responsibilities
- Teach classes in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Kinesiology, and/or Biomechanics
- Assist with clinical supervision of Exercise Science/Kinesiotherapy majors
- Collaborate with department faculty to update and develop CAAHEP certification reports
- Advise and mentor students
- Hold office hours as designated by the University
- Engage in program development, curriculum reviews, and assessment of student learning
- Provide support for program coordination and administration
- Serve on Departmental, School, and University committees
- Conduct scholarly research and publish in respected refereed scholarly journals
Requirements
- Ph.D. (ABD considered) in a related field such as Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Human Movement Sciences, or Rehabilitative Sciences from an accredited program
- Expertise in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Kinesiology, and/or Biomechanics
- Considerable knowledge and 1-3 years of independent clinical practice in rehabilitative settings as a Kinesiotherapist, Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer, and/or Exercise Physiologist
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed and/or certified professionals in rehabilitation settings
- Registered Kinesiotherapist (RKT) certification and knowledge of CAAHEP accreditation standards and procedures
- Experience with short-term and long-term rehabilitative exercise programs for people transitioning out of hospital-based treatment
- Record of teaching courses related to Human Movement and effective verbal and written communication to a diverse student-body audience
- Record of published research in the field of Kinesiology, Rehabilitative, and/or Human Movement Sciences
