About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a prestigious research programme at the University of Glasgow, focusing on Emerging Space Technologies. As a Postdoctoral Research Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting our research theme on the development of new technologies for in-space manufacturing.

The project is part of a long-term programme associated with Professor McInnes' Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies. You will contribute to the formulation and submission of research proposals, as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging programme of research. Lecturing, undergraduate/postgraduate project supervision and PhD co-supervision duties are also associated with the post.

You will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including the Integrated Space and Exploration Technology Laboratory (I-SET) and the Emerging Space Technologies Laboratory. The SET group comprises a broad range of expertise across access to space, orbital dynamics, emerging space technologies, entry, descent and landing and planetary exploration technologies.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Take a leading role in planning and conducting assigned research individually or jointly, according to project deliverables and research strategy.
  2. Document research output, including analysis and interpretation of data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
  3. Establish and maintain your research profile and reputation, including publications in high-profile refereed journals and gathering indicators of esteem.
  4. Survey the research literature and environment, understand challenges associated with the project & subject area, and develop/implement a suitable research strategy.
  5. Presentation of work at international and national conferences, seminars, colloquia and workshops to enhance research profile.
  6. Take a leading role in identifying potential funding sources and developing proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies.
  7. Develop and maintain collaborations with colleagues across the research group/School/College/University and wider community.
  8. Lead team/group meetings/seminars/workshops and School research group activities to enhance knowledge, outputs and culture of the School/College.
  9. Organise, supervise, mentor and train undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team.
  10. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School, including budgets/expenditure.
  11. Keep up-to-date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.
  12. Engage in personal, professional and career development to enhance specialist and transferable skills.

Key Requirements:

  1. A PhD in a relevant field, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).
  2. Able to demonstrate independence, as illustrated by identification of project objectives, design & analysis of experiments, and drafting of papers.
  3. Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner.

We offer a competitive salary of £40,247 - £45,163 per annum, which includes 41 days of leave for full-time staff and a pension scheme. Relocation assistance may be provided where appropriate.

This post is eligible to be sponsored under the Skilled Worker visa route if tradeable points can be used under the Skilled Worker visa rules.
