Job Summary

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Emergency Services Receptionist to join our team. As an essential member of our administration team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service and administrative support to our patients and visitors.

Main Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Receiving and welcoming patients and relatives to the department, directing them to the waiting area.
  • Booking patients into the Emergency Service on Nervecentre and ensuring necessary documents are available before triage.
  • Confirming demographic details with patients and understanding the importance of accurate data entry.
  • Escalating concerns to the triage nurse when required, such as patients presenting with chest pain, symptoms of a stroke, or shortness of breath.
  • Completing assault screens for external auditing and accessing/sharing care plans with authorised clinicians for vulnerable patients.
  • Understanding the process of booking in overseas patients and using EDDI to record and audit data for patients referred by 111.
  • Using SALUS to print wristbands, transfer/discharge patients, and book in unknown patients via the unknown patient process.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Previous demonstrable experience within a similar role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work effectively with patients, relatives, and colleagues.
  • Good computing skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with patient management systems.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, as part of a team, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • GCSE Maths and English grades 4-9 (A-C) and NVQ Level 2 in a relevant subject or equivalent demonstrable experience.
