Job Summary

Serco is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Service Operations Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Fire and Rescue Service, you will be responsible for managing shift personnel in delivering Fire and Rescue Services at designated sites. Your duties will include responding to fires, rescues, emergencies, storms, flooding, accidents, hazardous material incidents, decontamination, and rotary wing rescue operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to fires, rescues, emergencies, storms, flooding, accidents, hazardous material incidents, decontamination, and rotary wing rescue operations.
  • Perform fire and rescue tasks defined in PIP's/IMG's.
  • Accountable for the shift management and performance of fire and rescue tasks defined in PIP's/IMG's.
  • Accountable for the management of dedicated emergency response services for all allocated sites and associated locations.
  • Respond to actual structural/vehicle fires, including all vehicles in operation, office/accommodation buildings, welfare facilities, warehousing, fuel/petroleum and hazardous products storage areas, and any other area of sites to provide command/management as required.
  • Required to be fully conversant with service documents and policies, able to demonstrate good underpinning knowledge and understanding of local/international Fire & Rescue standards and regulations.
  • Assumes the role of Incident Commander (Bronze Command) at incidents or when required, maintaining fire service responsibility for command and control.
  • Leads/Manages the crews of all assigned vehicles or equipment in the performance of all firefighting, rescue or other required duties during a multiple vehicle deployment incident.
  • Responsible for all fireground communication with fire control rooms for all necessary messages, instructions and incident information.
  • Assists in the ongoing mandatory competency-based fire training of fire and rescue service personnel as required, ensuring all records are maintained.
  • Manages the assignment of all personnel, vehicle manning and general watch/shift duties.
  • Conducts periodic tests, inspections, drills and exercises to ensure complete operational capability and readiness of the Fire and Rescue Service.
  • Manages the daily operations, ensuring serviceability and readiness of vehicle/equipment and manpower in alignment with the airfield category.
  • Ensures all entries in station logbooks are correctly filed including the recording of standbys, fires, RTC's and all other incidents requiring fire service personnel and/or equipment are entered into the incident log.
  • Supervises the management of daily station duties to maintain a clean and safe working environment, actively promoting health, safety, welfare and environmentally safe practices.
  • Conducts all duties in line with company policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Is required to wear all provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective clothing, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and chemical protection as required.
  • Performs fire related client/customer engagement and interface on behalf of the Fire and Rescue Service, including the delivery of educational fire safety awareness programmes, training, specialist event cover and standby services in support of other departments as required.
  • Ensures crews physical fitness, medical standards certifications, qualifications and role competence are maintained.
  • Ensures that all aspects of people management responsibilities are managed in accordance with service policies and procedures, utilising the relevant service systems, where required. This includes, but is not limited to: training and development, performance management, sickness absence and disciplinary.
  • Performs any other role and/or associated duties as required and assigned by their line management.


Requirements
  • University Degree in a fire/rescue related subject (Desirable).
  • NFPA 1021 - Fire Officer I/II (Essential).
  • NFPA 1041 - Fire Instructor I (Essential).
  • NFPA 1031 - Fire Inspector I (Essential).
  • Five-Ten (5-10) years' experience in fire/rescue services including three (3) years as a Crew Chief or similar position. Additional fire/rescue work experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years formal education in the ratio of two (2) years' experience to one (1) years education (Essential).
