Job Overview

Abcam is seeking a skilled Procurement Specialist to join our team for a 13-month maternity cover. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day interaction and sourcing responsibilities across a group of suppliers in the Direct Materials category.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Create RFQs and conduct benchmark analysis to ensure the supply base is competitive
  2. Assist with the day-to-day procurement operations
  3. Support and lead Cross-Functional Review Boards in the Global Category Lead's absence
  4. Conduct and organize supplier meetings and SRM reviews
  5. Perform due diligence to assess the suitability and sustainability of new suppliers using Abcam's preferred tools and techniques
  6. Conduct new supplier due diligence, including supplier audits, relevant analysis, and contract negotiation
  7. Support the Quality and Supplier Excellence team on Supplier Audits
  8. Responsible for contract management and negotiation with selected suppliers
  9. Create internal stakeholder management relationships relating to Direct Materials suppliers
  10. Contribute to the procurement annual cost-saving targets
  11. Provide day-to-day procurement support to the Global Sourcing Director and Global Category Lead
  12. Support the company-wide quality initiative to reduce complaint rates for high-complaint suppliers
  13. Work cross-functionally with internal teams to resolve queries as quickly as possible
  14. Support the management of purchase orders, invoices, and contract discrepancies related to the Direct Materials supplier base
  15. Work with the Accounts team to approve or reject invoices with pricing discrepancies
  16. Support the resolution of quality and business continuity issues related to assigned Direct Material suppliers
  17. Ensure that the procurement savings tracker is updated to reflect the most accurate picture related to Direct Materials savings
  18. Serve as an escalation point for all internal stakeholders, including the Scientific Support team/SciQC team, on complaints for specific products and help facilitate discussions with Abcam teams and the supplier to reach a resolution
  19. Support the maintenance and use of the Global Procurement Process - policies, procedures, and standards (e.g., supplier documents, SRM, preferred supplier status, internal stakeholder engagement)
  20. Deputise as interim cover in the Global Category Lead's or Category Manager's absence as required

Requirements

This role is ideal for someone looking to take the next step in their career. A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Business, Science, Operations/Engineering, or Supply Chain Management discipline is preferred, but other subjects will be considered. Holder or working towards a CIPS accreditation is also beneficial.

Experience of 2-4 years in a procurement role, preferably in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical/life sciences industries, is required. Evidence of strong supplier relationship activities in terms of performance measurement is also essential.

This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong communication and organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and multi-task in a high-paced environment, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

The candidate must possess strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work well both in a team and independently when required. Some travel may be included in this role.
