About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Team Lead to join our UK&I Technology team at Sky. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading a team of Software Engineers and Testers, driving technical excellence, and ensuring the successful delivery of our technology roadmaps.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of Software Engineers and Testers, providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring to support their growth and development.
  • Technical Excellence: Advocate for good practice and patterns throughout the team, ensuring effective road mapping, release engineering, and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Morale and Well-being: Play an active role in assessing and maintaining the morale of the team, balancing the needs of our people and our business.
  • Recruitment and Talent Development: Run the recruitment pipelines for the team, ensuring sufficient capacity to deliver the roadmap, and actively develop your own skills and be an advocate for a learning culture in the team.
  • Technical Roadmap: Own the process for driving our technical roadmap forward, supporting with capacity planning, delivery, and facilitation.
  • Stakeholder Management: Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, dependency owners, and leaders & specialists from other disciplines, whose skills and efforts are required for the team to succeed.
Requirements
  • Background: A background in Software Engineering or experience leading Software Engineers delivering modern solutions in a complex environment.
  • Leadership: A passion for leading people, spotting and growing talent, and delivering through others.
  • Communication: Experience motivating those in your team to take accountability for their work by providing clear direction and opportunities for learning & feedback.
  • Stakeholder Management: Experience managing stakeholders to ensure a consistent message is received on delivery and budget impacts.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with team / platform performance measurement trends and an understanding of how to inspect and adapt the processes and culture.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills, with experience making work visible and facilitating sessions to discuss all aspects of Software Development.
  • Communication and Coordination: Ability to communicate and coordinate between teams, take pride and ownership in your work, and confidently represent your team to other parts of Sky.
