Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Surveillance Officer to join our Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands team. As a Technical Surveillance Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting our investigations and operations by deploying covert technical equipment and providing specialist advice and technical surveillance support.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy and maintain technical equipment in demanding situations, providing practical assistance and technical support to Counter Terrorism investigations.
- Design, build, adapt, and repair equipment as required, ensuring it meets the needs of each individual operation.
- Train others in the use of technical equipment and conduct feasibility studies, planning, and deploying technical equipment in covert operations.
- Operate an effective system to record the progress of work and equipment deployed, providing comprehensive risk assessments for operations.
- Prepare periodic data on work undertaken and continually appraise working methods to ensure best value and keep abreast of technological developments.
- Work in stressful, often dirty, and hazardous conditions in time-limited operations, carrying heavy equipment over distances.
Requirements
- Qualification and/or experience within a relevant industry, such as electrical, electronic, mechanical, or construction.
- Hold a full current UK Driving Licence and be able to work from within a vehicle while travelling for extended periods.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and use own initiative.
- Experience of working with sensitive information, maintaining discretion and confidentiality, and effective communication skills.
- Previous experience of installing technical equipment, knowledge of I.P and networking, operating systems, IT hardware and software, and a depth of understanding of transmission systems.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience of working in a technical surveillance unit, at height, and confined spaces.
- General understanding of building fabrication and regulations, knowledge of current legislation regarding covert surveillance, and working knowledge of Video Management Systems.
Working Arrangements
The position requires flexibility of hours, especially during significant operational periods, and may involve working out of hours, staying overnight, and supporting an on-call rota within the team. You must hold a full current UK/European driving licence and be able to work from within a vehicle while travelling for extended periods.
