About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as Head of Policy and Public Affairs. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the policy agenda for the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and the planning system as a whole.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective policy and public affairs strategies to achieve the RTPI's objectives.
  • Lead the policy team and public affairs teams, providing oversight and line management responsibilities.
  • Be the primary point of contact for the England Policy Committee and our National Directors to ensure effective operation across the UK.
  • Advocate on behalf of the membership through direct contact with Government, parliamentarians, and across Whitehall.
  • Shape the long-term policy agenda for the RTPI and develop public affairs strategies to achieve those objectives.
Requirements
  • Chartered planner with excellent working knowledge of the planning systems of the UK.
  • Experience in active public affairs or a strong working knowledge of central Government.
  • Active curiosity for how planning and public policy interact, and recognition of the need for outcomes from the RTPI's activity.
