We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Counsellor Volunteer to join our team at Salvation Army Homes, a leading provider of housing services and support for individuals experiencing homelessness.

As a Counsellor Volunteer, you will play a vital role in delivering one-to-one talk therapies to residents, helping them to overcome trauma and complex needs. Your expertise and empathy will empower individuals to progress towards independence and a better quality of life.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with clients.
  • Experience working with clients with complex needs, including trauma and mental health issues.
  • A strong understanding of the core conditions of counselling and the ability to demonstrate these in practice.
  • A Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Certificate, obtained through Salvation Army Homes.
  • Completion of Salvation Army Homes induction and mandatory e-learning, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • A confident and capable communicator, able to manage risk and work effectively in a team environment.
  • A passion for empowering individuals to develop their skills, strengths, and talents, with a focus on asset-based approaches.
  • Knowledge of community resources and organisations that can support our clients, with the ability to signpost effectively.
