As a Highway Development Implementation Technician at South Gloucestershire Council, you will have the opportunity to develop your civil engineering skills and progress your career in a dynamic team.

Working closely with the Highway Development Implementation team, you will support the design and implementation of developer funded highway works, ensuring they meet approved standards and agreements.

With a focus on delivering good engineering solutions that make a positive difference to our lives, you will contribute to the development of homes, jobs, and better opportunities for all, while balancing this against protecting and enhancing the District's natural and historic environment.

Key responsibilities

  1. Participate in daily activities of a team involved in the design and implementation of developer funded highway works.
  2. Evaluate and ensure that highway works undertaken by developers and in-house teams meet national and local standards, S38, S, and other Council requirements.
  3. Visit development sites and collaborate with developers, consultants, and contractors to ensure that highway works are designed, constructed, and implemented to agreed technical approvals and appropriate standards of workmanship.
  4. Assist in checking developer submissions to ensure compliance with national and local standards and promote safe working practices at all times.

Requirements

  • Working towards or partly qualified with a professional or technical qualification, such as HNC/HND, EngTech.
  • If not qualified, demonstration of considerable relevant experience.
  • Experience working within civil engineering or an appropriate technical discipline, including managing technical aspects of projects.
  • Working knowledge of highway infrastructure, technical specifications, legislation, and codes of practice.
  • Familiarity with CDM and health and safety in construction/engineering.
  • Ability to draft technical reports for fellow professionals, elected members, and councillors.
