Fire Safety Specialist

This position is responsible for ensuring the protection of personnel and assets from fire or accident-related risks. As a Vessel Fire Safety Officer, you will be working in a sensitive defence contract environment, protecting people and assets from injury and loss.
You will be required to maintain a level of personal fitness necessary to carry out the duties of the role and pass a medical exam. The job is shift based, 365 days a year, and may involve working in challenging environments, including confined spaces, heights, and partial or total darkness.
Key responsibilities include ensuring all hot work is conducted in accordance with the Hot Work Permit requirements, checking for general fire issues, and ensuring all cables and equipment are well protected. You will also be responsible for inspecting areas, neighbouring areas, and behind bulkheads prior to commencement of any hot work.
In addition, you will be responsible for being conversant in the safe use of all hand portable fire-fighting equipment on-board and fire-fighting equipment external to the vessel, and taking responsibility for their serviceability. Liaising with all trades is an essential aspect of Fire watch duties, and being aware of all flushing and testing of systems, stopping such tests prior to hot work.
This role requires excellent team player skills, a good understanding of Health and Safety at work, and good communication skills. As a Safety and Security Professional, you will be responsible for ensuring the protection of personnel and assets, and for maintaining a high level of personal fitness. You will also be required to pass a medical exam and be able to access, egress, and work in confined spaces.
