Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced paediatric nurse to join our team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, you will play a key role in leading and delivering high-quality patient care in our Children's and Young Person's Day Unit (CYPDU).

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of nurses in providing individualised patient care, ensuring that each child's needs are met and their families are supported.
  • Develop and implement effective care plans, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care transitions.
  • Take charge of a group of patients, prioritising their needs and ensuring that their care is coordinated and effective.
  • Participate in the assessment, implementation, and delivery of individualised patient care, seeking guidance where necessary.
  • Ensure that all patients' data is accurately recorded and that their care is documented in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Be responsible for the control and custody of all medication and drugs in accordance with Trust policy, administering drugs as prescribed and witnessing controlled drugs.
  • Ensure safe and effective discharge planning, involving the multidisciplinary team as necessary.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • NMC registration
  • Experience in managing beds and patient flow
  • Substantial paediatric experience
  • EPLS/APLS

  • Leadership/management course
  • PNA
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Physical assessment
  • Evidence of teaching and assessing
  • Nurse prescribing
