Job Description

In this challenging and exciting role as a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for the delivery of mechanical engineering projects to clients or internal project teams. We are looking for you if you can:

  • Understand client requirements and aspirations to identify and agree scopes of work.
  • Deliver high quality work to agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Have good knowledge of at least two of the following rolling stock areas, and the desire and ability to develop your knowledge within other areas: Bogies and suspension, Wheelsets, Bearings and transmissions, Braking systems and performance, Door systems, Couplers and gangways, Corrosion repairs and fabrication, Engines, Train maintenance and fleet management.

Key Responsibilities:

The role requires:

  • The introduction of new rolling stock through design scrutiny in support of the Certification Body.
  • Cost reduction through component condition assessment and maintenance optimization.
  • Investigation of in-service issues / problem solving.
  • Devising practical repair solutions.
  • Improving system reliability through the review of fault data and recommendation for modifications.
  • Undertake Project Manager roles for projects managed by the Mechanical Systems team.
  • Identify technical, commercial and safety risks associated with projects and ensure these are managed through each project phase.
