Job Title: Senior Bioinformatician

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Bioinformatician to join our Bioinformatics & Biostatistics Scientific Technology Platform (STP) at the Francis Crick Institute. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with our scientists to design and implement cutting-edge bioinformatics solutions to drive forward discovery in human health research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide bioinformatics expertise to inform experimental and analysis design, and to develop bespoke analysis pipelines using the latest methods.
  • Analyse complex genomic data using a wide range of biological resources and bioinformatic methods to deliver on complex bespoke analysis goals.
  • Work closely with Professor Hayday's group to provide data analysis expertise and support the delivery of their research objectives.
  • Develop and deploy pipelines for data science and provide bioinformatics support and coaching to members of the team.
  • Contribute to the development of group project management and reporting procedures, and participate in Crick meetings, workshops, and seminars.

Requirements

  • A degree in a relevant subject with an extensive analytical component, such as bioinformatics, statistics, molecular biology, or mathematics.
  • Significant experience with varied types of high-throughput sequencing data and analysis, including experience applying bioinformatics to multiple concurrent projects in a collaborative biological research environment.
  • Excellent scientific analysis skills, with a good understanding and experience of working with multiple sequencing applications.
  • Experience in R or Python, with a track record of developing programs and scripts conforming to common coding standards.
  • Ability to work independently at all aspects of the analysis project workflow, and to mentor and share expertise with others.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiarity with immunology and the application of statistical techniques to biological data.
  • Excellent computational skills applied to HPC, big data, software development, and web technologies.
  • Knowledge of Unix and HPC batch scheduling systems, and experience in building and deploying pipelines for data science.
  • Understanding of software development processes and management, and experience in teaching bioinformatics.
