Internal Audit Director

This role sits within the Audit and Compliance sub-team, leading internal audit activities demonstrating best practice in audit and controls. The role holder will provide effective internal audit capability, including the scoping, delivery, and completion of audits (risk and policy-based) as agreed with the Smart DCC's Executive Committee and Audit and Risk Committee.
As our Internal Audit Senior Manager, you will:
- Provide independent assurance and guidance to the Board and the Audit and Risk Committee on the adequacy and effectiveness of the DCC's control environment
- Lead the development of a three-year audit plan aligned to our strategic and enterprise risks
- Support the business in optimising controls and process efficiency and in protecting value and supporting growth
- Execute risk-based and policy-based audits, or control-related projects ensuring that audit reports provide business insight and improve the control environment
- Identify risk and opportunities for improvements within the role, function, and business that can deliver long-term positive returns for the business
- Liaise with stakeholders (including external auditors and Group internal audit)
What are we looking for?
- A relevant professional qualification relating to Audit or Accounting
- Minimum 8 years' experience in an internal audit role
- Experience of operational and/or programmatic audits
- Effective communication skills with experience of dealing with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
- Strong report writing and presentation skills, and ability to communicate with impact
- Member of the IIA (desirable)
- Led or assisted technology-based audits and IT programme audits (desirable)
