Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced academic to join our Department of Materials as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader in Materials Science and Simulation. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading research activities and programmes in the area of Theory and Simulation of Materials, and will be expected to contribute to the development of our undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead research activities and programmes in the area of Theory and Simulation of Materials
  • Contribute to the development of our undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes
  • Teach and assess across a wide spectrum of our lecture courses
  • Supervise and assess laboratory classes, group exercises, and research projects
  • Participate in departmental committees and undertake administrative duties
Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a PhD in the physical sciences, engineering, or a related field, and will have a developing national reputation and expertise in the field of Theory and Simulation of Materials. They will also have experience of preparing grant applications, a portfolio of high-quality research publications, and experience of training undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Senior Lecturer/Reader Requirements
  • An established national and developing international reputation and expertise in the field of Theory and Simulation of Materials
  • A track record in attracting high levels of research funding
  • Evidence of contribution to the development and performance of colleagues through coaching and mentoring
  • Experience and capability to act as a role model in areas of research, teaching, and management
