Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our team at Selwyn Hall School, a new SEN school in Foxton, Cambridge. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH) in a therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Mentor and Support Pupils: Dedicated to mentoring and supporting one pupil or a small group of no more than six pupils, providing individual attention and support to ensure their success.
- Support Classroom Teacher: Supporting the Classroom Teacher during lessons, contributing to a collaborative and effective learning environment.
- Progress Reporting and Liaising: Reporting on pupils' progress and concerns, and liaising with other School staff to ensure pupils' needs are met.
- Supervision and Activities: Supervising pupils during non-classroom time, including extra-curricular activities and school trips, promoting a safe and supportive environment.
- Lesson Planning and Preparation: Assisting with lesson planning and classroom preparation, contributing to a well-organized and effective learning environment.
- Setting Work and Marking: Setting work where appropriate, and marking, providing constructive feedback to pupils.
- Building Relationships: Building positive relationships with your pupil/s, driving interaction and positive learning outcomes.
- Education and Experience: A strong basic education, ideally to A-level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills. Previous experience in a similar role, such as a Teaching Assistant, is essential.
- Experience with SEMH Pupils: Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting is required.
- Additional Responsibilities: Experienced and confident enough to take additional responsibility in an area of school, such as Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, or School Yoga.
- Behaviour Management: Experience of behaviour management and techniques is essential.

- DBS Check: Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work.
