Junior Electrical Engineer Job Description

Workshop Recruitment is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer to join our client based in Shoreham-by-sea. The successful candidate will focus on the application of a product as part of a conversions/solution for industrial materials handling equipment for UK Ex, ATEX and IEC Ex compliant machines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop project specification documents to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Select and integrate electrical components into original machine systems.
  • Create electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical to achieve vehicle functionality and meet legislative requirements.
  • Contribute to the design of components to be packaged onto vehicles, considering extreme space constraint limitations.
  • Specify Ex certified primary traction batteries for equipment.
  • Define electrical enclosure layouts and population.
  • Design solutions to achieve optimal execution cost.
  • Specify product test requirements to support compliance activities.
  • Produce documentation to support product certification and prepare product risk assessments when required.

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Design of electrical systems.
  • Specification/sizing of electrical components.
  • Understanding of mechanical/electrical system integration.
  • A good foundation knowledge of electrical and electronic systems.
  • HNC/D or equivalent in electrical, electronics, or automotive engineering.
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD Electrical.

Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

  • Design of industrial vehicle electrical systems.
  • Design of electrical machine systems and controls.
  • A broad knowledge of electrical and electronic control systems, for example industrial controllers, PLCs, AC inverters.
  • CAN protocol knowledge.
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated environment.
  • Exposure to CE marking and creation of technical construction files.
  • Knowledge of EMC relating to machines and control techniques.
  • Background in fault finding complex electrical systems.
  • Hazardous area regulations and design standards knowledge.
