Design Engineer - Mechanical Systems

A great opportunity to join a stable manufacturing company as a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop equipment concepts and schemes that can be assembled, built, and commissioned safely and effectively. SolidWorks is utilized to create detail drawings and material schedules which are clear, accurate, and cost-effective to meet the requirements of the specification.

  1. Design and develop specialized machinery utilizing SolidWorks to meet customer expectations and requirements.
  2. Produce technical information, drawings, and associated schedules and documents, adhering to H&S requirements, designs, specifications, and standards relating to the project.
  3. Maintain drawing files and records throughout the duration of the project.
  4. Be the primary technical contact for the CAD/PDM system, liaising to resolve day-to-day problems.
  5. Work in conjunction with the Network Manager to oversee the required activities to implement CAD/PDM software & hardware updates and upgrades.
  6. Attend visits with colleagues to customers to commission & test machines and resolve problems.
  7. Ensure as-built specifications are recorded, and system function is tested and proven prior to commissioning.
  8. Identify opportunities to continuously improve the performance & reliability of equipment through innovative design improvements and where appropriate the use of new emerging technologies.

Requirements:

  1. Educated to degree level or HNC/D level or equivalent qualification in a mechanical engineering or design discipline.
  2. Experience in 3D modelling with SolidWorks is required.
  3. Any packaging industry knowledge or special purpose machine design would be of particular interest.
  4. Project management skills and the ability to assess risk.
  5. Ability to negotiate and positively influence customers during the project process.
  6. Current driving license and passport are required for this role as travel will be involved to customers from time to time.

This role is working with an established and friendly production engineering company on the outskirts of Bristol in Keynsham, where you will be an integral part of the design engineering team.
