Consultant Ophthalmologist with Special Interest

This is a replacement Consultant post in the Ophthalmology department at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team to provide and develop care for patients with Glaucoma. The post holder will also be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group, with a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
Main Duties- Provide specialist Consultant leadership, expertise, and support to King's glaucoma services.
- Develop and provide outpatient and surgical services for glaucoma patients, from complex to routine cases.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the glaucoma service across all King's sites, in collaboration with other King's glaucoma specialists.
- Work with local clinical commissioning groups to devise appropriate patient care pathways and services in primary care.
- Perform high-volume cataract surgery, as required.

Person SpecificationQualifications
- Registerable medical qualification
- FRCOphth / MRCOphth or equivalent
Registration
- Full Registration with GMC
- Name on GMC Ophthalmology Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
Training and Experience
- Wide experience in all aspects of Ophthalmology, culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or award of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMC.
- Advanced subspecialty training in Glaucoma
Administration
- Experience in day-to-day organisation of Ophthalmology services in a busy Teaching Hospital
- Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
- Familiar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
Management and Leadership
- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
Audit and Quality Improvement
- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.
Research and Publications
- Experience of clinical research.
- Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
Teaching
- Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation.
