Digital Phenotyping Research Scientist

Manchester, United Kingdom The University of Manchester Full time

We are seeking a talented researcher to work on developing machine learning algorithms for predicting psychosis relapse and identifying digital biomarkers from patient-generated data. As part of our digital phenotyping research group, you will be working closely with Prof John Ainsworth and the wider data science community at The University of Manchester.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in artificial intelligence or a related field and experience in applied machine learning to healthcare problems. You will join a team of over 400 investigators working across different disciplines allied to data sciences and connected through the Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and validate risk prediction models for relapse: Using data from prospective studies, you will develop/train a risk prediction model that can be used to identify patients at risk of relapse. This will involve exploring different predictors and machine learning methods.
  • Identify and develop digital phenotypes: You will use emerging data from CONNECT to identify clusters of phenotypes and how they predict relapse. By linking the CONNECT data to electronic health records, you will develop extended digital phenotypes.
  • Standardise digital biomarkers from patient-generated data: An objective of the group is to develop repeatable approaches to extracting digital phenotypes from patient-generated data where there is heterogeneity across devices used to generate and collect data.
About the Role

This is a full-time fixed-term position for two years, with the possibility of extension. The salary is £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience. The successful candidate will be based at The University of Manchester, which offers a fantastic market-leading pension scheme, excellent employee health and wellbeing services, and exceptional starting annual leave entitlement.
