We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the Quadram Institute Bioscience. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and applications of microphysiological systems (MPS) including organ-on-chip technologies in support of our work on the interaction between food, microbiome and the host.
Main Responsibilities- Conduct research projects based on the use of microphysiological systems (MPS) including organ-on-chip technologies.
- Develop advanced MPS models to support QIB science in the area of food, microbiome and host interactions.
- Liaise, supervise, and train QIB users (staff and students) and collaborators.
- Liaise with technical staff and suppliers and carry out horizon-scanning of new MPS.
- Liaise with NRP Biorepository and QIB Human Study Team for relevant Ethical applications and access to human tissue and with QIB Lab managers.
- Be curator of cell/tissue culture room.
- Present research results internally at International Conferences.
- Contribute to the writing of scientific publications and reports.
- PhD in biological sciences.
- Cell biology, imaging, organoid culture, microbiology, organ-on-chip systems, immunohistochemistry, immunoassays, microfluidic physiological systems, intestinal organoid culture, primary cell cultures, co-cultures with immune cells or microbiome, anaerobic gut microbe culture, confocal microscopy, experience of handling human samples, experience of Ethics application, mammalian gene editing, flow cytometry.
- Experience of supervising, training and mentoring others.
- Management and leadership skills (resources, leadership, mentoring and training).
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills with an ability to meet objectives and deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

The Group comprises two research assistants, three PhD students, three post-doctoral scientists and regularly hosts undergraduate students and visiting scientists. The Group has extensive collaborations on the Norwich Research Park and internationally.
