Clinical Fellow Safeguarding Professional Lead

We are seeking an experienced senior safeguarding colleague to join our regional safeguarding team. The successful candidate will be registered with a professional regulator, such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The part-time nature of the role will be for one to two days per week, with the option to negotiate the location of the Clinical Fellow hours.

The Clinical Fellow opportunity aims to:

  1. Support the career development of safeguarding colleagues within the region
  2. Amplify the sharing of subject matter expertise and perceptions between systems, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), and the regional team
  3. Build on the collegiality of our joint approach to working across the region
Main Responsibilities

The Clinical Fellow will use their safeguarding expertise within the regional workplan structure and as a subject matter expert stretch assignment for their career development. They will work with ICB and system colleagues to discharge regional statutory responsibilities for safeguarding, as described in legislation.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend at least 40% of their time working in-person. Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

NHS England holds a Sponsor Licence, which means we may be able to sponsor candidates providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route, you'll usually need to be paid the standard salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the going rate for your job, whichever is higher.

Person Specification
  • Educated to master's level in a relevant subject or currently studying for a master's
  • Current NMC registration or HCPC registration
  • Significant evidence of continued professional development
Knowledge and Experience
  • Proven and significant leadership experience
  • Significant management experience at senior level in the NHS
  • Significant experience and understanding of proven implementation of Quality Improvement methodologies
  • Experience and/or understanding of the health economy
  • Awareness of relevant public and private sector business management best practice
  • Experience of successfully operating in and delivering priorities in a partnership environment
  • Dynamic personality and the ability to build trusted stakeholder relationships
  • Develops relationships and wide support networks
  • Strong external communications skills in a politically sensitive environment and experience in handling media
  • Ability to prepare and produce concise yet insightful communications for dissemination to senior stakeholders and a broad range of stakeholders as required
  • Extensive experience of delivering presentations to large groups of stakeholders in often pressured and politically sensitive environments
  • Demonstrated capabilities to manage own workload and make informed decisions in the absence of required information, working to tight and often changing timescales
