Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist

“At Harefield Hospital, we are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Physiologist to join our renowned Echocardiography Department.”

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform transthoracic echocardiograms to a high standard, adhering to BSE guidelines and department minimum standards.
  • Identify when transthoracic echocardiography is insufficient and proactively suggest alternative/additional investigations.
  • Produce accurate and comprehensive reports for each study.
  • Ensure personal knowledge base is current to reflect changes in clinical echocardiography.
  • Perform specialist echocardiography to a high standard, including transoesophageal echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, 3D echocardiograms, contrast/bubble contrast echocardiography, and complex adult congenital studies.

Key Relationships and Teamwork:

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, consisting of physiologists, echocardiographers, consultant cardiologists, junior doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff. The post holder will be expected to train physiologists and doctors, act as a role model and mentor to trainees, and contribute to non-clinical projects as required.

Requirements and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a BSE-accredited (or equivalent) echocardiographer with a good grounding in transthoracic echocardiography and an interest in developing their skills within a specialist area. The candidate will be expected to motivate, develop, and lead a small team within their area, be responsible for specialist training and service development, and work closely with the Head of Echocardiography to achieve this.
