About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Manager to join our team at Slough Borough Council. As a key member of our Finance and Commercial Services team, you will play a pivotal role in leading and supporting the development of a comprehensive financial management advice service to departments or as part of the corporate and strategic finance team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of financial accountants, finance assistants, and trainees, working flexibly across the department to achieve business objectives.
  • Implement the council's strategy on continuous service improvement, ensuring alignment with internal and external objectives.
  • Work with colleagues to confirm savings proposals, develop and review capital projects, and undertake service analysis to support the year-end position and final accounts process.
  • Anticipate and identify key financial issues and risks affecting the business, liaising with government departments to ensure completion of all statutory matters.
  • Produce financial and commercial analysis to support the financial strategy, decision-making, and service reviews, managing financial modeling of new services.
  • Support Budget Managers during budget preparation, monthly monitoring, and other times.
Requirements
  • Track record of success working within a finance function in a large complex organization with substantial budgets.
  • Experience of maintaining positive partnerships/relationships within a complex business, facilitating change and transformation.
  • Ability to analyze and provide advice/guidance on finance and policy issues, with relevant professional qualifications (CCAB/CIMA or overseas equivalent).
  • Wide understanding of strategic financial planning and techniques, with experience of applying them within a budget setting scenario.
