About Our Team

The Department of Māori / Indigenous Health Innovation (MIHI) is a dynamic team dedicated to advancing Māori health through research, teaching, and community service. We value our relationships with Ngai Tahu, the mana whenua within their taki wā of Te Waipounamu, and the University's principal Treaty partner.

The Role

We are seeking a Pūkenga / Pūkenga Matua (Lecturer / Senior Lecturer) to join our team and contribute to the teaching and delivery of the Hauora Māori component of the MB ChB programme in years 4 to 6 of the Advanced Learning in Medicine (ALM) programme at the University of Otago, Christchurch (UOC). The successful candidate will also contribute to scholarship and professional activities, research relevant to Māori Health Advancement, and university planning and governance.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience with undergraduate medical and nursing education, ideally in clinical skills and simulation-based education. They will also have experience working with Māori communities and an advanced understanding of Hauora Māori. We are looking for someone with an aptitude and enthusiasm for health professional education and a willingness to work in an academic team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and deliver the Hauora Māori component of the MB ChB programme
  • Contribute to scholarship and professional activities
  • Contribute to research relevant to Māori Health Advancement
  • Participate in university planning and governance

This is a permanent position with work hours that can be negotiated, ranging from 0.2 FTE to full-time. We welcome applications for both part-time and full-time opportunities.
