About the Role


We are seeking an Editorial Lawyer to join our team at News UK. As an Editorial Lawyer, you will provide expert advice on media law and litigation, ensuring compliance with current legislation and regulations.


Your Key Responsibilities



  • Provide editorial legal advice to News UK's broadcast titles, including The Sun, Sun on Sunday, and Sun Online.
  • Assist in identifying and discussing significant issues, reporting to the head of department.
  • Exercise sound professional judgment in providing advice to editors and journalists in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work with the legal team to manage complaints and post-publication matters.

Requirements



  • You will ideally be a solicitor or barrister with post-qualification experience in media law or litigation.
  • Experience advising on pre-publication issues, including libel, privacy, contempt, copyright, and data protection is preferred but not essential.
  • You will have a strong interest in free speech issues, public interest, and investigative journalism.
  • You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain and present problems to others.
  • You will be able to interact positively at all levels as part of a legal department, reporting to the head of department.
  • You will be able to work well unsupervised, demonstrating initiative and the ability to be proactive, while also being able to follow instructions and provide support to the legal team and head of department.
