Electrical Engineer - Substation Design

POWER Engineers is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Power Delivery Substation Department in our Birmingham, AL office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-quality electrical systems for substation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the department to produce high-quality electrical designs that meet client requirements
  • Support departmental goals and foster internal teamwork
  • Perform detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations, including one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA and Communications, station physical layouts, sections/elevations, cable and conduit plans/details, ground grid design/details, foundation plans/details, structural plans/details, control enclosure design/details, lightning protection plans, yard lighting plans, and bills of materials
  • Support QA/QC for client deliverables
  • Learn and adhere to client standards and processes
  • Work individually or in a team on complex designs
  • Travel occasionally

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) from an accredited university, preferably with a power option
  • Strong foundational knowledge of electrical engineering
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/Experience

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred
  • Knowledge of electrical utility substations and substation design
