Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Clinical Research Practitioner to join our dynamic chemotherapy team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in delivering Systematic Anticancer Treatment (SACT) for haematology and/or oncology patients and will be able to develop their skills as a nurse leader.

Main Duties
  • Run nurse-led clinics in the chemotherapy day unit, including pre-chemotherapy consultations.
  • Lead in the management of extravasation, including training and audit.
  • Deliver safe and compliant SACT at a local level and report to the Chemotherapy Nurse Consultant.
  • Conduct SACT competency and skills assessments as part of yearly re-assessment and skills.
  • Offer mentoring and supervisory support to all staff in relation to SACT training.
  • Deliver teaching and training locally, ensuring full compliance with quality standards.
  • Develop close and effective relationships with interdependent services, including pharmacy, aseptic, clinical trial team, IV team, and iMobile team.
  • Support Pre-Chemo consultations Clinics to meet quality standards.
  • Support the lead Chemotherapy Consultant in delivering quality standards.
  • Support the Chemotherapy Closer to Home project.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provide expert staff who will deliver SACT within the trust.
  • Deliver innovative nurse-led SACT services, working closely with nurse practitioners to run clinics for patients receiving home delivery or self-administration of SACT.
  • Lead in SACT training and updates, including leading on digital SACT competency passports.
  • Lead in training and assessing staff in the management of Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs) and leading CVAD passport training for Chartwell CDU.
  • Provide support and teaching for Chartwell CDU staff.
  • Support patients and their families in being fully informed and supported by providing clinical, emotional, psychological, and social assessments.
  • Deliver and assist in the development of evidence-based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
  • Be an advocate for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Provide advice and support to non-oncology healthcare professionals regarding cancer management and patient support.
Person Specification
  • Postgraduate qualification in cancer care, acute medicine, or equivalent experience.
  • Non-Medical Prescribing Course.
  • Advanced Life Support qualification(s).
  • SACT accredited course.
  • Significant experience at a senior level (Band 7 or above) in cancer or acute care.
