Job DescriptionJob Title: Instrumentation and Control Engineer

Our client is a renowned global manufacturer of Petrochemical, Speciality Chemicals and Oil products. To support their continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Control Engineer to be based at their site in Aberdeen.

The successful candidate will provide front-line technical support to the operations site-based team, ensuring the smooth operation of instrument and control systems. They will work closely with the Projects team to provide technical discipline input and have ownership of the relevant Unity Performance Standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Specify, scope, and execute improvements to instrument and protective systems
  2. Act as asset IPS engineering focal point for site projects, including studies
  3. Act as IPS single point of accountability for long-term Asset strategy
  4. Lead discipline improvements in plant reliability, equipment strategy, defect elimination, and equipment rationalisation
  5. Define and own the asset's IPS spares strategy
  6. Lead discipline improvements in plant reliability, root cause analysis, defect elimination, and continuous improvement
  7. Lead/contribute to safety reviews, risk assessments, and investigations as the Instrument and Protective Systems engineering focal point
  8. Act as custodian of asset maintenance strategies for IPS equipment
  9. Support the maintenance team in regards to equipment breakdown; including investigation of fault, defect resolution, and execution of breakdown maintenance
  10. Monitor and advise on the technical and safety implications of any maintenance backlog
  11. Act as custodian of key IPS engineering documentation including Control Philosophies, Cause and Effect Diagrams, Hazardous Area Drawings, Loop Diagrams, Trip and Alarms Registers, Alarm Response Manual, ensuring same are kept up-to-date
  12. Provide technical support to asset TAR activities

  14. Coach asset instrument technicians to ensure their competency and skills are continually improved
  15. Participation in incident management team
  16. Travel to Offshore Platforms or remote onshore sites to provide technical support
  17. Support planned and unplanned outages
  18. Participation in the Asset self-audit program

Requirements:

  • Candidates will hold a Degree in Instrument Engineering
  • Be a Chartered Engineer or actively working to achieve chartered status
  • BOSIET, Medical, and MIST for offshore travel
  • 5+ years' experience including experience of O&G, Refining, or Chemical Industries
  • Knowledge and experience of the design, operation, commissioning, and maintenance of legacy instrument equipment, control systems, and ESD systems
  • Comprehensive understanding and applied knowledge of relevant UK Regulatory (Safety Case, COMAH, etc) and industry standards
