We are looking for an experienced professional like you to join our team at Swansea Bay University Health Board as a part-time Adult Community Specialist Speech.
The successful candidate will provide SLT intervention to adults with acquired neurological or medical-related communication and swallowing disorders in our outpatient department and acute service.

Main Responsibilities
  • Independently assess and treat patients with acquired medical and/or neurological related swallowing and communication disorders in the SLT department.
  • Work collaboratively with band 7, band 5, and administrative colleagues to deliver 1:1 and group interventions as appropriate.

The SLT department has strong links with other teams across the organization, providing opportunities to develop specialist clinical skills and expand your professional development with support from specialist colleagues.

The department is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to optimize patient care, including access to videofluoroscopy clinics, several FEES stacks, and instrumental bio-feedback equipment for dysphagia rehabilitation and computer-based communication therapy.

Person Specification - Qualifications & Training
  • Recognised SLT degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC.
  • Completion of postgraduate specialist courses in Dysphagia.
  • CEN membership.
Experience
  • Assessment and management of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Support and mentor less experienced SLTs, students, and assistants.
  • Use and interpretation of assessments relevant for specialist caseloads.
  • Experience and knowledge of use of AAC.
  • Planning and delivery of clinical audit.
  • Experience and implementation of a range of specialist treatment options for individuals and groups.
  • Training or teaching of SLTs, other professionals, medical staff, and assistants.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage specialist caseload without direct supervision.
  • Working within an MDT.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Specialist knowledge underpinned by current evidence-based practice.
  • Accurate administration and analysis of assessments leading to differential diagnosis.
  • Good verbal and written skills to share complex and sensitive information.
  • Able to work unsupervised and independently as an active member of MDT negotiating case management.
  • Demonstrates understanding of wider public service policies.
  • Implementation of clinical governance/audits/research within relevant specialism.
  • Ability to use Microsoft packages including virtual platforms, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Experience of conflict resolution.
  • Ability to speak Welsh.

  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner to meet business needs.
