About the Job

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly experienced Consultant Physician in General Medicine to join our enthusiastic consultant body managing general internal medicine. The successful candidate will be based at Basingstoke and Winchester and will have the opportunity to develop our inpatient general medical service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the care of inpatients on a General Internal Medicine/Specialty ward and develop standards, procedures, and systems to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care.
  • Work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective team working in the provision of acute medical care to patients on a day-to-day basis.
  • Develop clinical guidelines to ensure best practice for the management of a wide range of medical conditions.
  • Participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
  • Liaise closely with the department, emergency, and acute medical teams, other in-patient teams, and primary and community services to ensure collaborative working arrangements are in place which maximize benefits to patient care.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • MRCP (Paces) or equivalent.
  • Licence to practice and full registration with GMC.
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completion of CCT at the time of interview.
  • Advanced Life Support qualification.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

Desirable Requirements

  • Postgraduate degree (MSc/PhD).
  • Previous experience as a Consultant in General Medicine.
  • Demonstrated participation in audit and research.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of service improvement.
