About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven professional to join our team as the Head of Industrial Biomass Operations. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the operation and maintenance of our Industrial Biomass sites, driving optimal system performance and ensuring the success of our operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure overall plant performance, including availability, energy output, and boiler efficiency
  • Oversee upgrade projects with effective document control and change management
  • Manage the on-site maintenance team and sub-contractors for operations, maintenance, and upgrades
  • Manage the operation and maintenance budget, including labour, parts, and sub-contractor expenses
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance regulations for LTHW, steam, electrical generation, and high-voltage equipment
  • Coordinate planned maintenance, repairs, and reactive works to ensure continuous energy supply
  • Ensure compliance with Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) schemes, environmental permits, and industry standards
  • Maintain strong relationships and communication with clients and their engineering teams
  • Promote a strong Health and Safety culture and conduct regular safety audits
  • Oversee biomass fuel supply and ensure compliance with specifications and regulations
  • Keep accurate records of fuel supply, maintenance, testing, and safety incidents
  • Collaborate on operation and maintenance strategies for new industrial low-carbon heat projects
  • Coordinate with the Head of Industrial Biomass South for mutual cover and escalation for the respective areas
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Group to optimise resource and drive company performance
Requirements
  • Technical qualification such as Mechanical or Electrical engineering and Health and safety training or qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH
  • Kaizen training or qualification desirable but not essential
  • Comprehensive understanding of all compliance requirements, regulations and best practice relating to the management large of MTWH, HTHW, steam based industrial heating systems and CHP plant
  • In-depth technical knowledge of hot water and steam plant, including mechanical and electrical engineering and SCADA control systems
  • Previous experience of effectively managing an engineering team across multiple locations
  • Demonstratable experience of effective Health and Safety management on site, encouraging a strong Health and Safety culture and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with on-call working to ensure the on-site team respond to heating outages, loss of service or emergencies as required
  • Previous experience with budgetary control and financial reporting
  • Excellent analytical skills to effectively analyse data and trends and interpret information
  • Able to effectively troubleshoot complex technical issues
  • A strong decision maker, to be able to assess a situation, problem solve and confidently come up with the best course of action possible
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational and communications skills
  • Takes ownership and follows through to ensure the delivery of solutions and services that fulfil the customers' needs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting
