Lead Automation Engineer

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Lead Automation Engineer to join our team at Automation Experts. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of automation solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of the functional safety lifecycle, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Supervision and motivation of teams of engineers, including external resources, to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget.
  • Mentoring of graduate engineers, trainees, and apprentices to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Collaboration with Project Managers to identify and mitigate project risks and technical changes.
  • Development of internal standards and practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Ownership of projects from start to finish, including delegation of tasks to other staff or subcontractors.
  • Detailed software and electrical/control concept design, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Organisation of CAD, manufacturing, test, dispatch, and commissioning activities to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Visits to customer sites to ensure project success and on-site commissioning of completed projects, if required.

Requirements:

  • Broad automation understanding, with the ability to manage projects from both software and hardware perspectives.
  • Competence with Rockwell and Siemens packages, with previous experience of industrial drive and control systems.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent team-playing abilities, with the ability to manage and document project information.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience working on continuous process lines with power electronics and excellent drives ability, but we are open to engineers from any industrial machinery background.

Location: This role is based in Shropshire, with easy commutability from Telford, Wolverhampton, Bridgnorth, Shrewsbury, and Stafford.
