Automation Experts seeks an experienced and skilled Lead Automation Engineer to join their team in Shropshire. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on complete turnkey projects, delivering high-quality solutions across multiple industries.

The Role:
  • Take ownership of the functional safety lifecycle, ensuring seamless project execution.
  • Supervise and motivate teams of engineers, including external resources, to achieve exceptional results.
  • Mentor graduate engineers, trainees, and apprentices, fostering their growth and development.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to identify and mitigate project risks and technical changes.
  • Contribute to the development of internal standards and practices, focusing on continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Oversee project activities, including those delegated to other staff or sub-contractors, to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Design and develop software and electrical/control systems, ensuring efficient and reliable project execution.
  • Organize and manage CAD, manufacturing, test, dispatch, and commissioning activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Visit customer sites as required to ensure smooth project execution and on-site commissioning, if necessary.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Possess a broad automation understanding, enabling the management of projects from both software and hardware perspectives.
  • Be competent in Rockwell and Siemens packages, with previous experience in industrial drive and control systems.
  • Demonstrate good working knowledge of variable speed drives, PLCs, and SCADA/HMI products.
  • Show the ability to manage and document project information for successful project delivery.
  • Have a strong industrial automation background working on continuous process lines with power electronics and excellent drives ability, or be an engineer from any industrial machinery background.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills and excellent team playing abilities.

Location: The role is based in Shropshire, with commutable locations including Telford, Wolverhampton, Bridgnorth, Shrewsbury, and Stafford.
