About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team at Heart of Worcestershire College. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality learning support to students with SEN, enabling them to engage and achieve their goals.
  • Support the delivery of specialist foundation programmes, including those for autistic spectrum conditions, mental health, emotional and behavioural difficulties, and severe, moderate, and mild learning difficulties.
  • Ensure learners with support needs are fully engaged with student standards and reinforce College attendance policies.
  • Support a flexible caseload of individual and/or groups of supported learners with specialist needs.
  • Assist in pre-entry activities, such as recruitment, enrolment, and assessment of support needs.
  • Liaise with tutors, lecturers, and other lead delivery staff to ensure support can be targeted and managed within the learning session.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and measurement of the impact of one-to-one and group work carried out to evaluate its effectiveness and work towards continual improvement of the service.
  • Maintain accurate records of all information and interventions, ensuring all administration is completed promptly and efficiently within agreed timescales.
  • Contribute to the negotiation, monitoring, and support of individual learning objectives.
  • Enable learning support procedures to be carried out in line with best practice guidelines regarding Safeguarding, Prevent, Equality, and Diversity themes.
  • Make an active contribution to the attainment of English and math for supported learners.
  • Provide incidental personal care support where necessary.
  • Support learners to access and engage in all learning activities, including trips and visits that may require pushing learners in wheelchairs.
  • Commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Take direct responsibility for own continuous professional development.
  • Participate in the College's performance management scheme.
  • Undertake such other duties as are commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
Requirements
  • Level 2 (at least) qualification in both Maths and English, or a willingness to gain.
  • Experience gained in support services, especially for young people with special educational needs.
  • Ability to work on own and take the initiative.
  • Tolerance and the ability to work well with a range of learners and colleagues.
  • Commitment to own continuing professional development.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic.
