About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Parliamentary Reporter to join our team at the House of Lords. This is a part-time position requiring two days of work per week and every other Friday. The successful candidate will be expected to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce a substantially verbatim report of parliamentary proceedings in the Chamber, Grand Committee, and Select Committees, using digital audio recordings, in accordance with Hansard's terms of reference and performance criteria.
  • Log proceedings in the Chamber, Grand Committee, and Select Committees.
  • Proof-read reports as required and provide line-management and support to variable hours staff.

Requirements

  • Communication and Editorial Skills: Excellent command of the English language, including the ability to write clearly and accurately. Relevant editorial experience, ideally in parliamentary reporting or a comparable context, would be a significant advantage.
  • Reporting Skills: Ability to comprehend and report complex arguments in their political context.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Experience of working effectively with others, including challenging, guiding, and advocating where necessary, adapting effectively to a range of situations, individuals, or groups.
  • Delivering at Pace: Ability to work quickly and dependably under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Interest in Current Affairs: Broad general knowledge and a keen interest in current affairs.
  • Willingness to Work Unsociable Hours: A Late Duty allowance of £1,502 per annum is payable for this requirement.
