London, Greater London, United Kingdom Russell Tobin Full time

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Strategy Lead to join our team at Russell Tobin. This is a key role that will play a critical part in shaping our approach to environmental sustainability and helping us achieve our net-zero goals.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date data on all emissions, including delivering the annual carbon footprint for our business.
  2. Develop and lead our Carbon Data Strategy, identifying requirements across the business and informing the delivery of appropriate solutions for accurate, timely data.
  3. Maintain and develop our carbon model, taking the latest ATM and pax forecasts and working with functional experts to translate into regular carbon forecasts for all elements of our footprint, setting a transition pathway and budgets for the business to follow.
  4. Maintain an up-to-date picture of Government, industry, and third-party carbon forecasts (e.g., Climate Change Committee, IATA, ATAG, A4E, International Energy Agency, Clean Skies for Tomorrow, Energy Transitions Commission) to inform our model and understand key differences and risks.
  5. Work with the carbon programme team, solutions, and operations to translate the carbon strategy into operational delivery through targets, solutions, and management processes. Specifically, act as a business partner for airside operations and surface access [departments tbc].
  6. Undertake research and analysis to support our carbon strategy, including monitoring market and government policy developments and horizon-scanning future risks and trends. Specifically, identify available and emerging solutions from industry and academia to inform our Carbon Strategy – seeking continuous improvement and getting the most value and insights out of data.
  7. Air Quality: Ensure a robust monitoring strategy is in place for pollution across the airport and local communities; commission dispersion models as needed to understand patterns/trends in pollution; identify additional emissions reduction actions required for air pollution (in addition to those already in the net zero plan); engage with key local stakeholders to agree and deliver a joint air quality action plan.

Requirements

  1. Technical and practical experience of monitoring and managing emissions affecting climate change and local air quality.
  2. Good knowledge and understanding of relevant technologies and legislation.
  3. Graduate or post-graduate with relevant qualifications.
  4. Excellent communicator and influencer with experience of handling challenging debate in a public setting.
  5. Experience of leading virtual teams, achieving results through others, and delivering business outcomes to time and budget.
  6. Understanding of our operation, strategy, and commercial and regulatory drivers.
  7. An interest in/passion for a leadership role as a sustainable business using our scale and influence to decarbonise flight and improve local air quality.
