Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team permanently located in the Aldermaston area. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of discipline engineers and/or engineering design subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Plan and oversee research, development, design, construction, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse mechanical structures, systems, and components.
  • Design and Development: Perform a range of design development, analysis, or review tasks independently, and generate complete design specifications for complex projects.
  • Team Leadership: Organize and supervise a group of employees or subcontracted engineers for a given project, contract, or job, with overall responsibility for cost, schedule, technical, and employee performance.
  • Technical Expertise: Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications, and conduct site visits, investigations, and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions, and alternatives.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels, from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews, and technical working group meetings.
Requirements
  • Education: Ideally degree educated in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant discipline.
  • Experience: Proven experience leading a Design team, with general mechanical handling and equipment experience, and experience with Nuclear glovebox design, modification, and decommissioning an advantage.
  • Skills: Sound knowledge of building regulations and planning submissions, experience of CDM regulations, and area of oversight responsibility including gloveboxes, mechanical handling, and mechanical interlocks.
