**About the Role:**

Kirklees Council is seeking a dedicated individual to serve as an Independent Person, promoting high standards of conduct among elected councillors and co-opted members.

As an Independent Person, you will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the member complaints process. Your impartial views will be highly valued in ensuring that all complaints are handled fairly and efficiently.

**Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide independent advice on complaints alleging breaches of the Members Code of Conduct
  • To review and assess evidence presented in complaints, making recommendations for further action when necessary
  • To collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure effective handling of complaints

**Requirements:**

  • A strong understanding of ethical standards in public office and their impact within a local authority context
  • The ability to maintain objectivity and impartiality in decision-making
  • Experience in dealing with complaints and customer care issues in the public or private sector

**Eligibility Criteria:**

  • No prior connection to Kirklees Council or any Parish or Town Council within the district, either as a member, co-opted member, employee, or relative
  • No history of public profile in party politics or convictions for serious offences
