Job Summary

Assystem is seeking a highly skilled Principal Design Engineer to join our core engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the technical integrity and engineering direction of multiple projects within a broader programme of works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering processes to ensure all requirements are captured, understood, and integrated with stakeholders.
  • Provide technical expertise across a wide range of project and programme-wide engineering issues.
  • Ensure projects are established with the appropriate engineering management frameworks and followed consistently throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate the capture and management of requirements from all stakeholders, ensuring their integration into the project's design and delivery.
  • Provide high-level engineering support to project teams, helping to resolve technical challenges and ensuring that engineering principles are upheld.
  • Contribute to the wider technical and engineering assurance of the programme, ensuring that design solutions are safe, compliant, and deliverable.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in a core engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Engineering).
  • Chartered Engineer status with a recognized awarding body.
  • Proven experience in delivering projects using structured design processes, aligned with the RIBA 4 stages of work.
  • Extensive experience in managing and delivering complex engineering and construction projects from feasibility through to handover.
  • Ability to distil complex engineering challenges and provide practical solutions for project teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with various levels of stakeholders.
