Position Summary: We are in search of a talented and forward-thinking GPU Performance Engineer to enhance our software capabilities. This role will concentrate on refining machine learning inference for our open-source applications, particularly the base caller dorado, by crafting high-performance code tailored for GPUs utilizing technologies such as CUDA, OpenCL, and Metal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a team of skilled developers and C++ engineers to enhance machine learning inference algorithms for optimal GPU performance.
  • Design, evaluate, and improve high-performance computing solutions using CUDA, OpenCL, Metal, or similar frameworks.
  • Conduct performance analysis on existing codebases, pinpointing inefficiencies and implementing effective solutions.
  • Focus on boosting the performance of bioinformatics tools, including alignment and variant calling processes.
  • Engage closely with software engineers, data scientists, and researchers to incorporate performance enhancements into our machine learning workflows.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in GPU programming and high-performance computing, applying this knowledge to elevate our software solutions.
  • Document and convey optimization strategies and outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in GPU programming and high-performance computing utilizing CUDA, OpenCL, Metal, or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated success in optimizing code for performance and efficiency on GPU architectures.
  • Proficient programming skills in C/C++, Python, and other relevant languages.
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch is advantageous.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in optimizing machine learning inference for bioinformatics or similar applications.
  • Knowledge of low-level programming and performance profiling tools.
  • Experience with open-source software development and contributions.
  • Bioinformatics experience is a plus but not mandatory.
