We are excited to announce a remarkable opportunity with Macdonald & Company, seeking a Principal Planner to enhance our team on a long-term contract.

About the Role

The organization is in search of a highly skilled Principal Planner to join our ranks temporarily, collaborating with a Project Manager and Planning Technician to facilitate the successful delivery of significant Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs).

To excel in this position, candidates must possess extensive planning experience, exceptional organizational skills, and outstanding negotiation abilities. Previous engagement with developers, agents, and consultants on large-scale projects is essential. A strong commitment to sustainable development and a focus on creating lasting community benefits from NSIPs and major initiatives is crucial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of corporate responses to the Development Consent Order stage for a variety of infrastructure proposals.
  • Maximize the organization's influence to shape and secure developer contributions for strategic Development Consent Orders, collaborating closely with senior leadership and local planning authorities.
  • Conduct thorough technical analysis and provide professional advice on complex development proposals, ensuring evidence-based recommendations are made.
  • Represent the organization in negotiations concerning intricate DCO proposals, supporting strategic planning initiatives.
  • Prepare comprehensive briefing notes, reports, and recommendations for senior leadership, implementing resolutions effectively.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to advance planning control matters and provide guidance on planning issues.
  • Coordinate and present evidence at public inquiries and examinations to defend planning decisions as necessary.
  • Lead critical elements of planning projects, utilizing project management methodologies to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery.
  • Define specific targets and objectives annually within the performance management framework.

Qualifications and Experience

  • MRTPI qualification is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with NSIPs and DCOs is highly beneficial.
  • Strong negotiation skills and excellent stakeholder management experience are essential.
