Job Title: Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery to join our team at Bournemouth & Poole College. As a Lecturer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning to our students, ensuring they develop the skills and knowledge required to succeed in their chosen career.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver excellent quality teaching and learning to a range of students, including those with varying levels of ability and experience.
  • Embed employability and employer engagement activities into our programmes, ensuring our students are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the industry.
  • Support community and personal enrichment activities, including trips related to learning, to enhance the student experience.
  • Prepare schemes of learning, lesson plans, assignment schedules, and learning materials for curriculum delivery, ensuring they are engaging and relevant to our students.
  • Actively promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion, and health and safety in all aspects of college life, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Mark students' work with developmental feedback, providing constructive guidance to help them improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Report student progress, providing regular updates to parents, guardians, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in curriculum development activities, contributing to the design and delivery of our programmes.
  • Represent the College at internal and external events and meetings, promoting our programmes and services to potential students and employers.
  • Participate in all aspects of the College's quality process, ensuring we maintain high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Internal verification, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of student assessments and grades.
  • Continually maintain, undertake, and meet any relevant CPD requirements, ensuring you remain up-to-date with industry developments and best practices.
  • Liaise with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on student progress and addressing any concerns they may have.
Requirements:
  • NVQ level 2 or Craft certificate in Carpentry and Joinery.
  • Maths and English at Level 2 equivalent or willing to work towards.
  • 5 years minimum industry experience in Carpentry and Joinery.
  • Knowledge of current evidence-based practice in the field of Carpentry and Joinery.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent organisational skills, able to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Attendance at college events, including open evenings and other activities outside of normal working hours.
