About the Position

Join HMRC as an Audio-Visual Forensic Specialist, where you will play a vital role in supporting investigations through the provision of essential forensic services. This position is integral to our Cybercrime & Forensic Services (C&FS) team, which is dedicated to preserving and analyzing digital evidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the highest standards in all aspects of audio-visual forensic work, adhering to established forensic strategies and principles.
  • Manage a diverse range of audio-visual evidence, including video, CCTV, audio recordings, and photography.
  • Assist law enforcement officers in the handling, processing, and presentation of evidence for legal proceedings.
  • Develop and implement documented technical procedures while maintaining quality checks and competency frameworks.
  • Occasionally travel across the UK for on-site work, demonstrating flexibility and readiness to be on call.
Essential Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • LEVA Certified Video Technician Status (Level 1 & 2) or a willingness to pursue this certification.
  • A solid understanding of forensic applications related to CCTV, video, audio, and photography.
  • The ability to conduct technical analyses of audio and video recordings and communicate findings effectively.
  • Experience in working towards ISO 17025 accreditation in audio-visual forensics.
Desirable Attributes

Additional qualifications that would be beneficial include:

  • Experience in quality management systems and the development of technical procedures.
  • A degree or equivalent qualifications in relevant fields such as computer science or digital imagery.
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Cloud suite and previous experience in a law enforcement or legal environment.
Training and Development

Successful candidates will undergo a comprehensive training and assessment period to ensure proficiency in audio-visual forensics.

As an Audio-Visual Forensic Specialist, you will be a subject matter expert, responsible for fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the team. Your ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences will be crucial in this role.
