Job Title: Permanent Senior Computing Lecturer

School/Function: School of Higher Education

Responsible to: Programme Leader/Head of School

Responsible for: Delivering specialized instruction to students

Job Overview:

The Senior Computing Lecturer will be tasked with the creation, development, and delivery of educational materials across various modules or specific subject areas. This role is primarily face-to-face and involves ensuring that students actively engage with the course content, achieve their learning objectives, and enjoy a high-quality educational experience. Additionally, the lecturer may collaborate across programs to support students throughout their academic journey.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

The incumbent will:

  • Conduct a designated number of teaching sessions weekly, including lectures, seminars, and tutorials.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and collaborate with the attendance team to ensure data integrity.
  • Facilitate teaching sessions in accordance with the approved curriculum and module specifications.
  • Utilize digital platforms such as VLEs and MS Teams for instructional delivery.
  • Encourage student participation and engagement during sessions.
  • Develop and update teaching materials for various modules.
  • Regularly refresh class notes and other resources, ensuring the VLE is up-to-date.
  • Propose enhancements to improve the academic experience for students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and implement necessary changes to module content or structure.

Assessment and Evaluation:

The incumbent will:

  • Design assessments for students, ensuring timely submission rates exceed 90% for all modules.
  • Assist in the creation of assessments and ensure compliance with relevant approval processes.
  • Engage in standardization and moderation meetings as required.
  • Provide constructive formative feedback to students as appropriate.
  • Grade summative assessments in line with the approved assessment criteria and deliver timely feedback to students.
  • Identify potential academic misconduct and escalate concerns according to established procedures.

Student Support:

The incumbent will:

  • Address issues related to student engagement or performance, directing students to specialized College services as needed.
  • Support students with pastoral needs, referring them to appropriate College resources.
  • Monitor the progress of individual students' Learning Support Plans, coordinating with specialized services as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience or knowledge in quality assurance and validation of higher education modules/programs.
  • Familiarity with higher education and the ability to employ diverse teaching techniques to motivate and engage students.
  • Significant expertise in a relevant subject area.
  • A positive demeanor towards colleagues and students.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage and inspire the target audience.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including staff and students.
  • Capability to provide expert guidance and resolve complex issues.
  • Proficiency in achieving performance indicators through negotiation and persuasion.
  • Adaptability to rapidly changing circumstances within the school and College.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including networking and relationship-building abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Competence in managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines.

Education and Professional Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Fellowship of the Advanced Higher Education (HEA) or a commitment to achieve this within a specified timeframe.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the discipline to develop teaching programs and provide learning support.
  • Experience in teaching, curriculum development, and quality management in a higher education context.
  • Proficient digital skills in learning, teaching, and assessment.
