Position Overview

The Derbyshire Constabulary is seeking to appoint individuals to its Ethics and Transparency Advisory Panel. This Panel plays a crucial role in fostering trust and confidence in the ethical governance and actions of the police force.

The responsibilities of the Panel include reviewing the conduct, decisions, and actions of police personnel, as well as engaging in discussions and providing recommendations on complex operational and personnel matters. Through its efforts, the Panel aims to assure the Commissioner that ethical standards and integrity are upheld through comprehensive reviews of police procedures and consideration of ethical challenges that may arise, ultimately influencing local policy.

Key areas of scrutiny will encompass the Management of Complaints, the Treatment of Individuals in Custody, and the examination of Hate Crime Cases and Out Of Court Resolutions (OOCR).

The Panel will consist of impartial and independent individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Members will either reside or work within the jurisdiction of the Derbyshire Constabulary. The time commitment for Panel members includes attending four meetings annually, along with related documentation, and engaging in additional assurance activities between meetings. This may involve sampling and reviewing the aforementioned areas within the scope of the role.

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old and either live or work within the Derbyshire Constabulary area.
  • Members must maintain independence from both the Derbyshire Constabulary and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
  • Successful candidates will need to obtain vetting clearance in accordance with the National Vetting Policy for police personnel.
