Job Summary

The Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking a motivated and dedicated Corrections Officer to join our team. As a Corrections Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our facilities, staff, and supervisees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide security and supervision to adult supervisees at our correctional facilities
  • Ensure the safe and secure confinement of supervisees, including monitoring their behavior and movement
  • Interact with visitors, staff, and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations
  • Participate in evidence-based practices and principles to enhance effective communication strategies and role modeling
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures
  • Ability to lawfully possess a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment requirements, including medical screening, background check, and drug testing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Stable employment history
  • Military or related criminal justice experience
  • Coursework at a community college, college, or university
  • Bi-lingual and Multi-lingual applicants are encouraged to apply
