Key Responsibilities

As a Catering Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in delivering a comprehensive catering service to our patients, visitors, and staff. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Gathering patient meal preferences from the menu
  • Assisting in food preparation
  • Arranging and serving meals on the wards
  • Conducting beverage and snack rounds

The catering department operates on a shift basis, covering 7 days a week, which may include weekend shifts.

Job Requirements

The role encompasses:

  • Basic preparation of ingredients, salads, sandwiches, hot snacks, and desserts in a safe manner
  • Processing of patient dining ware and utensils through mechanized dishwashing
  • Reconciling meal deliveries with orders and reporting any discrepancies
  • Ensuring efficient use of food resources and minimizing waste
  • Adhering to food service timelines
  • Maintaining cleanliness in designated work areas according to established cleaning schedules
  • Upholding high standards of food safety and hygiene
  • Complying with health and safety policies
  • Keeping accurate records of food temperatures and cleaning schedules
  • Participating in personal development and performance reviews
  • Contributing to service improvements through self-evaluation and team collaboration
  • Understanding and adhering to confidentiality policies
  • Taking responsibility for personal growth and maintaining a development plan

Qualifications

Essential:

  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Mathematics

Desirable:

  • Awareness of food hygiene and health and safety principles
  • Food hygiene training

Experience

  • Previous experience in a catering environment
  • Experience in customer service roles

Skills

  • Strong communication skills
